by Garrett FriskDemocrat Suzanne Bonamici has represented Oregon's 1st district in the U.S. House since winning a 2012 special election. Bonamici has never faced a tough general election in this safely Democratic district, nor has she ever faced a serious primary challenger. She regularly dispatches her primary opponents with ease; in 2022, she took 88.2% of the vote in the Democratic primary against two little-known challengers, ahead of a 67.9% performance in the general election. Bonamici likely doesn't have anything to worry about in 2024, but that hasn't stopped one ambitious challenger from stepping up to the plate. Courtney Casgraux has announced she will take on Bonamici in her 2024 primary. Casgraux describes herself as "an international businesswoman who focuses on building supportive communities, amplifying the voices of artists and activists across the globe," and "lending expertise and resources to independent businesses both here and abroad," and who "has provided an example for working-class women looking to make an impact in both corporate and political spaces."
